EYFS - Cheam Common Infants' Academy

EYFS

Our Early Years Curriculum is ambitious and aspirational. Designed to give our children the knowledge and enriching opportunities they need to succeed in life. We promote a practical, play based approach to learning inside and outside the classroom which encompasses teacher directed and child initiated tasks linked to half termly topics and high quality texts.

The children are encouraged to to develop their learning independently through exploration and challenge, the characteristics of effective learning are at the heart of our Early Years curriculum. Working closely with Key Stage One to ensure consistency and cohesion across the year groups to ensure progression and sequencing of all subjects so that children are ready for the next stage of their learning.

We know that learning is about making connections and staff use a variety of approaches, strategies and activities to ensure that we meet the learning needs of each child. Children learn best when they are happy, safe and secure and remember things when they are ‘engaged’, active and involved. We revisit key learning concepts throughout the year to embed their understanding and build the foundations for their future.

We follow the Early Years Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundations Stage. This specifies the requirements for learning and development for learning in the Early Years and is organised into seven areas of Learning and Development.

Prime Areas

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Physical Development

  • Communication and Language

Specific Areas

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Home school partnerships are vital in supporting the development of our children and we encourage parents to be our partners in their child’s education. Seesaw is our online learning platform where children’s work is celebrated and home learning is set. It enables us to communicate with families, allowing them to watch their child’s progress evolve. Families are invited to share key moments of learning at home and comment on their child’s learning at school throughout the year.
