Science - Cheam Common Infants' Academy

Science

At Cheam Common Infants’ Academy, we believe that science is the key to understanding the world around us and igniting young minds with boundless curiosity.

Our well-designed sequential curriculum  is dedicated to providing an immersive and engaging science curriculum that sparks a lifelong passion for discovery, inquiry, and learning. Science is not just a subject; it's a way of thinking and exploring. It encourages  a deep understanding of the natural world, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Science education fosters creativity, innovation, and a sense of wonder about the mysteries of the universe.

Our science curriculum takes students on a captivating journey through the wonders of the natural world. Through a wide range of enriching opportunities pupils develop the scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding they need in order to make sense of the world. pupils develop understanding of how to work scientifically through different types of scientific enquiries (asking and answering questions, making observations, taking measurements, recording and presenting evidence, evaluating and communicating findings) that help them to answer specific questions about the world around them. pupils acquire the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and in the future.

The discoveries, innovations and significant scientists introduced reflect the diversity of our community, enabling pupils to see themselves within the world of science. This supports the pupils’s belief that they too can be successful scientists.   Our Science curriculum also emphasises environmental responsibility. Students learn about the importance of sustainability, conservation, and protecting the planet. They discover how science plays a crucial role in understanding and addressing environmental issues and developing as responsible global citizens.

We adapt our lessons carefully for our pupils with SEND to ensure that all pupils can access their learning. In all lessons, key scientific vocabulary is embedded and pupils are actively encouraged to use it in their spoken language.
